BABY DIAPER DRIVE COLLECTS MOTHER LODE

A Record Breaking Year for Collecting Diapers and Baby Wipes for Homeward Bound Families!

Scottsdale, AZ – Over 138,462 diapers and $62,004 in emergency cash were collected during the 12th Annual Baby Diaper Drive to benefit the babies and toddlers participating in Homeward Bound, a transitional housing program for homeless and domestic violence families with children.

This year’s record breaking results were significantly impacted by the effort from Valley school children who participated in the Elontec School Diaper Drive Challenge. The school that collected the most diapers will be awarded a Mimeo Teach board. Seven schools participated and together they collected over 70,000 diapers! Summit School of Ahwatukee collected 20,493 diapers – the largest amount of diapers collected – and the student body will be presented with the Mimeo Teach board at their March 24th school assembly.  “Involving the schools was a great way not only to foster kids helping kids, but it was a wonderful school and community-building event, as well as an opportunity to teach philanthropy and leadership in a hands-on way,” said president of Elontec and Baby Diaper Drive Chair, Ginger Clayton.

The final tally from this year’s diaper drive more than doubled last year’s results. “I am always amazed at the end result,” said Eileen Rogers, Baby Diaper Drive Founder and Allegra Marketing & Print President. “This drive brings together all ages, individuals, families, companies, churches, and even sports teams, all wanting to help Homeward Bound families on their journey to self-sufficiency,” said Rogers.

The reality is many of the families earn low wages and struggle to cover the essentials of diapers, wipes, and baby formula. The diapers and supplies collected, as well as the cash contributions, will be used throughout the year to fill the gap when Homeward Bound families are struggling to provide the basic necessities their babies and toddlers need.

Emergency funds purchase much needed items for children including eye glasses, hearing aids, speech therapy and special dietary foods such as soy and goat’s milk. These funds are critical to the fragile families who are living on very tight budgets working hard to transform their lives. 100% of the Emergency Fund donations go directly to families and our sponsors cover all drive costs.

Homeward Bound is fortunate to have major business partner sponsors who serve as community leaders in including Allegra Marketing, Elontec , BestBill,  Dollarhide Financial Group, Bank of Arizona, and Stegall Katz & Whitaker.  Schools participating in the Elontec School Diaper Challenge included Summit School of Ahwatukee, West Wing Elementary, Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran, Candeo Schools – Peoria, Rancho Solano – Hillcrest Campus, Cocopah Middle School, and Paradise Valley High School (girl’s soccer team).

“This was the best year ever. We expanded our partners, donors, participating school, church and business drives!” Rogers said.

The Elontec School Diaper Challenge – Win A Mimio Teach

19 Nov

The Baby Diaper Drive is now underway and Elontec, a sponsoring partner, is challenging Valley schools to collect diapers and support Homeward Bound’s drive for families in need. The school that collects the most diapers – sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6 – will win a Mimio Teach™,  an interactive system that turns your ordinary whiteboard into a technology whiteboard.

“This is a great way not only to foster kids helping kids, it is a wonderful school community-building event as well as an opportunity to teach philanthropy and leadership in a hands-on way,” said Ginger Clayton, President of Elontec.

It is simple: Students, club members, sports teams, parents and teachers come together to collect diapers on behalf of their school by February 15, 2011. The school that has collected the most diapers, WINS!

This is a great way to invest in the community by helping others and taking a chance to win interactive technology for your school.

Several schools have already stepped up to the Elontec School Diaper Challenge, they include:

  • Candeo School
  • West Wing Elementary
  • Primrose School of Fletcher Heights

12th Annual Baby Diaper Drive collects diapers, wipes for babies/toddlers in need until January 30, 2011

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) – From now until January 30, 2011, Homeward Bound, Arizona’s largest transitional housing provider serving homeless and domestic violence families throughout Maricopa County, is holding their 12th Annual Baby Diaper Drive in order to collect diapers and baby wipes for families in need.

“The power of one person giving one diaper or one dollar is tremendous,” said Eileen Rogers, founder of the drive and president of Allegra Marketing & Print. “The diaper is a tangible connection to the families we are trying to help. It starts with one person and the desire to lend a hand.”

In this new economy the need to reach the goal is more critical than ever. Homeward Bound has set a goal of collecting 100,000 diapers and $75,000 in emergency baby funds to help keep babies and toddlers happy, healthy and smiling in 2011. Aside from collecting diapers and baby wipes Homeward Bound also uses the monetary donations to supply families with emergency items such as strollers, hearing aids, glasses and other items that focus on a specific families’ needs.

More Important Than Ever This Year

19 Nov

Dear Friends,

What we have experienced over the past two years is extraordinary. Families once independent and surviving are now falling into an abyss they never imagined for themselves or their family.

As the cost of basic needs rise and the challenges of families hit a staggering new level, families just cannot make ends meet. They are making choices between groceries or life saving or stabilizing medications, a rental payment or insurance for their car, diapers for their baby or purchasing a bus pass. We are seeing babies left in wet diapers for hours at a time, medicine cabinets void of even basic medications for colds and fever, baby formula being diluted with water to go further. We are seeing more sick children and significantly more stressed parents. Read the stories below about some of our children -Clancy, Kevin and Sammy.

The goodness of the Baby Drive is that we may intervene and ensure that babies have clean dry bottoms, adequate formula, baby food, safe car seats and cribs, and funds to meet emergency needs.

Your generosity is immeasurable and we are grateful beyond words.

Pamela A. Martin, Ph.D.
President, Homeward Bound
